Back Page News.

Andy reminded me today that I haven’t updated the blog in oh, um, too many days… I told him not too much has been happening around here, nothing “news” worthy. But then I remembered that I could create something newsworthy and give you what West Wing once referred to as the back page news day- nothing noteworthy, but worthy enough to note.

1. After hearing on KLove that there was a shortage of canned pumpkin this fall, and confirming it through news stories and friend’s store visits, I thought I better stock up whenever I saw cans on the shelves- I think 6 cans will get us through the fall. I’m pretty much over pumpkin by the third batch of my favorite fall yummy anyway.

On Friday, we went outside for a quick family walk around the block before bedtime and we didn’t get but three houses down across the street when Ashleigh decided to run and catch up with the other girls. Unfortunately, she took a face dive into the sidewalk that resulted in a pretty bad scrape right near her eye. I felt so bad, I can easily replay the entire incident happening again in slow motion and when I told her so, she asked, “How come you didn’t catch me?”

Heartbreaking.

4. After a year of living here, I finally remembered to ask the librarian for my online pin number so I could request books ahead of time and be (like) a cool kid and pick up a stack of books when I arrived. One of our reads over the weekend was A Bad Case of Stripes that was recommended to me FORever ago (don’t you love goodreads?) and this is Sarah’s interpretation of Camilla.

And oh, boy, did we! He made a wonderful schnitzel and since it was a potluck, our neighbor friends brought more amazing goodness like spätzle, kartoffelsalat, and homemade sauerkraut. There might have been some beer and riesling, too… this was so much fun that  we’re making it a tradition and the first Saturday of October will now be Oktoberfest in our home. If you’re in the desert next year, come on over :)

No pictures this go around… sometimes, monochromatic food gatherings aren’t very fun to take pictures of. But the people were awesome.

6. If you’re a friend of mine on facebook, you may have seen little Lauren all dressed up the other morning for her 3:30 ballet class. She knew it was cold, so she made sure she wore her boots… today, she had a different leotard on, with a sweater.  Love this girl. I’m trying to bottle up her little-ness since she’s quickly approaching another birthday. I’m so in denial…

See, I told you, nothing worth writing home about, but there’s the back page news in a nutshell. I’ll try to come up with something that doesn’t qualify as a list again soon.
