(yes, that really happened.)

On Thursday evening, Andy and his classmates joined together for the culmination of the past 18 months of work at the Air Force Institure of Technology to receive their diplomas. The commencement ceremony was held at the Air Force Museum (remember, only one of two places I had on my list to bring my parents and aunt to), among retired aircraft, an oversized American flag and a drenched audience. I think there is a reason that most college graduation ceremonies are held in June; the rainy spring season has already done damage. But I digress.

Here’s Andy dressed in his fancy uniform (I’m not sure of it has an acronym, but it’s fancy to me) during the processional:

_MG_6568-EditThere was a speech and some introductions, but let’s get down to it- the announcement of the graduates! I became fast friends with a lady in red as I got in as close as I could without bothering other audience members to get this obligatory shot of Andy shaking hands with General W. upon receiving his diploma (for the “love me” wall, of course):

We applauded the graduates for their hard work and in turn, they stood and appluaded us, the support staff:

_MG_6601Are you wondering where my husbandly is? He is inconveniently located directly behind the video camera on the right. Sheesh. Didn’t he know to move where I could see him?

I sat next to my good friend Dana (can you say Saving Grace when I walked in, drenched and with ruined shoes?) and she belted out the Air Force song for us:

(truth be known, I requested this shot to pass the time singing where I actually don’t sing, but take pictures- thanks, D)

Here’s a little advice for you future graduation ceremony go-ers: 1. Locate your flash ahead of time, not as you are leaving and have no idea where you left it– you really probably do need it, and              2. It might be a good idea to have the plan set ahead of time on where you are going to meet your graduate. When you think it might be a good idea to stay put in one spot, you never know when he/she might be thinking the very same thing.

We finally located one another (thank you kind stranger for this shot of the nicely dressed husbandly and my rain-headed self):

Untitled-10I couldn’t be more proud of this guy- I believe graduate school is tough enough, let alone a family vying for your attention in addition to that. I know he feels incredibly blessed for this opportunity here at AFIT and we can probably say without too much reservation, we’re glad to have  made it to this side. Congratulations, Andy!
