Shannon + Dana + me = Good times.

(*please accept my apology for the cruddy colored photos below… if they don’t get posted as is, they will live forever in my computer)

Anyone that picks up their life for a weekend and visits the cold temperatures of winter in Ohio to visit friends is one cool cat in my book. I’m so glad my dear friend Shannon brought the sunshine and warmer air with her, it certainly has been spring in these parts. I just hope the last four days of sunshine won’t be the total amount we get for March (my fingers are crossed!).

Before we moved to Dayton, Shannon had another good friend that was moving out here at the VERY SAME time that I was, so she introduced us. That’s Dana. My first Dayton friend. We met briefly before the big move out here, but we haven’t ever all hung out until this weekend. Shannon + Dana + me = good times.

I just wish we didn’t have a Saturday equation that included Cracker Barrel because on Sunday it looked something like this for both of them: Shannon + Dana – Cracker Barrel = Sick Sunday.

That’s bad PR for one of my all-time favorite restaurants serving bad-for-your-health food (albeit deliciousness), but both of friends were down for the count. Luckily, all the good times of Friday night’s outing and slumber party and Saturdays shopping are strong enough memories of our time together.

Together at the famous Thai 9 with our server Edward Cullen (to clarify his last name is not Cullen, but if you’re walking around with a first name like Edward, you better expect your patrons to assume you have the last name Cullen to go along with it):

This was the sushi boat for three that we enjoyed before the big slumber party:

It was a longtime dream of Dana’s to have an adult slumber party with girlfriends, so we made this happen on Friday  night! What does an adult slumber party look like, you ask? Wait for it.

Apparently, it involves facial cleansing, complete with Biore strips and some mask type things.

I can’t believe I’m even posting this, but someone is bound to, I might as well.

-32No night is complete without my oversized laugh trying to take out someone’s face. Sorry, friends. I didn’t mean to scare you.

It got worse before it got better. The packs of masks I brought were all different. Dana had a creamy one that rubbed on and washed off. Shannon got the see through one that peeled off but made for greasy photos. And mine was somewhere in between a moist hand towelette and a wet paper towel with slits that made me look like some cannibal from Silence of the Lambs. Seriously- scary!

-1-2This is so classic- I love that you can see the mask peeling off so clean:

You can’t argue with good fellowship, fantastic friends and comical facials. Our time together was short, but as Dana said, “Magical.” I am blessed to have these two ladies in my life…  I’m continually amazed how the Lord watches where we’re headed and prepares friends for us in each town. I’m lucky to be part of their lives. Thank you, friends. Thank you for visiting us, Shannon. I’m sorry CB didn’t treat you well. We’ll always have Thai 9, though.

Ten on Tuesday.

1. Our Women’s Bible study group was canceled this morning, but we enjoy hanging out for two hours each Tuesday morning that we got together over here today to keep in rhythm. Food, fruit, fellowship and cards. A good combination on any account- even if cards doesn’t follow my alliterate sentence I was trying to create there). Here’s the beautiful women God has placed in my life this year (minus Ginger, our fearless leader):

_MG_0773-Edit(l-r: Becky (her Josiah is below left), Susy with Lolo, Dana with Adam, Ashleigh, Melanie, Janelle, and me)

2. My friend Denee’ and I are heading out to see New Moon tonight- I don’t feel like I’m over the top excited like most fifteen year olds, but the fact that we are going makes me feel like I’m fifteen-years-old. So, there’s that.

3.  The other day Sarah asked me if she could do the circle and find game. Wait for it.

4. I just put my name in the hat for a super cute necklace giveaway over at 60piggies. If you’re a fan of necklaces with words / names / sayings, run over and check out this crafty mamas Etsy shop!

5. I am looking forward to Christmas music next week. I have a strict rule (I have many rules come to think of it) that I don’t put anything up, play anything or send anything out Christmas related until December 1st. I have no idea why, but 25 days of Christmas cheer seems to be enough for me.

6.  Are you still wondering what circle and find game Sarah wanted to play? An old wordsearch. She loves finding words, just like her mama. I love that.

7. What are your turkey day plans? I have a date with the cutest chef ever and them Cowboys better show up and play a good game!

8. An exchange of e-mails with Suzi today resulted in a complaint of soreness (on my behalf) and  my favorite quote of late:

My thighs are sore…burning cottage cheese can be painful ;)

And if you know what cottage cheese is in regards to legs, than you might be chuckling at home, too. She’s too funny!

9. I’m almost done with Christmas cards – I only get to send 50 this year, so if you’re on the nice list, you may get one from us. But if you don’t, it’s probably because I cut down my list again this year.

10. I’ll leave you with a little crafty goodness from this morning:

Enjoy your Tuesday!

Shake Your Tutu Models

When Ashleigh’s creative movement class started up again this fall, we met the cutest little girls donning the cutest little tutus- homemade by their mama! Tracy (the tutu mama) was just minding her own business making these colorful and creative tutus for her girls (she has three!) (like me!) to wear to dance around and be an imaginary ballerina when she was virtually forced highly encouraged to start her own business making these darling little tulle-filled skirts for other little girls to enjoy.

So she got to work. And made some tutus. A whole lotta tutus- 12 in a matter of two weeks I think? Her hard work paid off and we met in a local park to capture some shots for her brand new etsy shop: Shake Your Tutu. With six little girls in tow, we knocked out the pictures in a matter of an hour, but I have been meaning to share some of my own girls in their first modeling gig sportin’  Tracy’s adorable tutus:

Sarah’s is called Rainbow Bright:

Untitled-21-20Ashleigh is sporting a spring-colored tutu, it doesn’t appear to be for sale, so we’ll call it the special edition tutu:

1-38Untitled-3If you want to see the rest of Tracy’s amazing tutu’s, go check out her Shake Your Tutu shop on etsy. She’s adding to it on a regular basis- in fact, I just saw a sneak peek of some winter ice during dance class this past week and you know what? Girls look great in blue, too!

If you are local, you can visit Tracy and Shake Your Tutus in a booth at Kettering Church on Dorothy Lane from 9-3Pm selling her tutus this Saturday (11.21). You can grab one as a stocking stuffer even! How fun for every little girl to dance  around in  an authentic tutu!

T-2 Days: Buddy Walk!

Meet Robyn Johnson.

RJ_BWIsn’t she a cutie?  I think so. This Saturday, we will be joining Robyn and her family, and the rest of our neighbor friends. in the local Buddy Walk to support people with Down syndrome. Until I moved here, I had never had the privilege of knowing anyone with Down syndrome, and now we have a four-year-old neighbor that has forever impacted how we see and understand people with Down’s syndrome.

_MG_4055-Edit

Robyn is one of Lauren’s favorite people and her face absolutely lights up at the idea of playing with “Ra-Ra,” her nickname for her friend. Robyn is one smart girly- she can read like no other four-year-old I’ve ever met and she is a whiz at signing. She is currently mainstreamed in one of the local public schools, too! Lisa & Rob, Robyn’s folks, are very active in the local Down syndrome chapter- the Miami Valley Down Syndrome Association- in fact, Lisa recently promoted the Buddy Walk on one of the local news networks- how cool is that? I love that Lisa discusses Down syndrome with positivity, information, and this important thought: We’re More Alike Than Different.

The Buddy Walk is a one-mile walk that occurs in local communities ALL over to raise awareness and educate the public on the inclusion of people with Down’s. We feel so fortunate to know Robyn and be apart of her Rock’N'Rollers team that will walk in support this Saturday.

We want to invite you out to support Robyn and other children like her with Down syndrome- to help raise awareness & promote programs for children with Down’s. If you are local and would like to come out for a great morning, join us at Delco Park in Kettering (9AM!). If you are far away and would like to make a donation supporting Robyn’s Walk’N'Rollers, you can visit her team page right here.

Thanks for stopping by today and meeting our friend Robyn!
