Running friends

Apple 4 GB iPod Mini Pink M9804LL/AMeet Peggy. Peggy is my new, pink iPod mini. I wasn’t sure if I really wanted an iPod, but was sure that I needed a friend to join me on my afternoon runs. Peggy is perfect. She is sleek and chic and plays Kelly. Kelly who? Kelly Clarkson, of course. She is also my new running friend that plays in my iTunes- to help motivate me to run. I also discovered another running diva, quite by accident mind you, that I also like to run with: pants. I was planning on an afternoon yoga session and had my yoga pants on when I went for a run instead. No shorts to creep up like a pair of camper shorts do up the center of your thighs. Nope. Pants stay put and they made me run faster. Or Kelly’s songs did ("I’ll spread my wings and I’ll learn how to fly…"). or that I looked cool with Peggy on my hip. I dunno. Maybe my made up running friends are just getting my butt into gear. Guess what? 11 pounds to go. Almost there. Thanks friends (And the yacking fest that I had last week seemed to help a bit, too.).

Monsters in Cowboy Hats

Guess who’s on Sesame Steet this morning? Garth Brooks. He and the Monsters are all adorned with cowboy hats. I LOVE cowboy hats and wouldn’t you know, it’s one adventure hat that I have never owned! I do have a pair of cowboy boots that my parents bought me when we were all into rodeos and line dancing (um, around 1996ish?). Most of the foot time they see is when I go adventuring to western parties- about 1 time a year- maybe. They are quite nice, actually. They are Justins and in the world of cowboy boots, they are nnnnnniccccccccccce. Black leather with X toes and they have amazing stitching up and down the leather. Where are they? Housed in a box somewhere in our garage. I cannot seem to part with them because:

1. My mom and dad bought them for me

and

2. You never know when you might need a good pair of cowboy boots.

I should have been more open to wearing them when I lived in Montana- that would have been an ideal place to wear them with. All that open range in the Northern Great Plains. I could have been like a Montana Cowboy complete with Wranglers, Justins and a lasso- hee-haw! Unfortunately, that time of my life has passed and even though I live in the west, I don’t live in the "West." No, out here, friends, flip flops and bathing suits are the rage and there is no room for cowboy boots and cowboy hats. Unless I plan on dining or riding the mechanical bull at Hermosa Beach’s Union Cattle, I don’t think I’ll be a Mama Monster in a cowboy hat any time soon. I’ll have to enjoy Garth on Sesame Street for today. Hee haw!

A good cry

That’s it. I’m a sucker for chick flicks. My most recent flick that I had to see wasThe Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. After little debate to which movie we would see on Sunday, The Sisterhood won over Mr. & Mrs. Smith since it got better reviews. Andy doesn’t pay to see "C" rated movies. Another story for another time. Anywho, the premise of the movie is this: Four best friends will be spendng the summer apart and wanted to stay in contact with one another, so they ventured off to find a trinket of sorts to use and pass along. How convenient for one pair of jeans to fit all four girls! So, the sisterhood is born and the traveling pants make their way from Greece to home, to South Carolina to the beaches of Mexico. I will not tell too many details of the story since you may want to run out and see this movie with your girlfriends (or drag your husbandly along for an afternoon matinee -which by the way is almost as expensive as the normal evening price- yikes!), but I recommend you bring some tissue! I had tears rolling down my cheeks and passing my chin to my chest and no tissue! Finally, I had to ask someone in the theater for something to wipe those tears- I told you- tear jerker! The nice gal over a couple of seats (who was also laughing aloud for how ridiculous she felt for crying so much) passed along some napkins! Nothing like a good cry for screen friends that love and grow for and with one another over the summer.

Put another candle on the birthday cake

I’m another year old today!

Good times, good times.

Last night, Andy and I attendImg_7069ed a dinner reception for an old friend that got married earlier in the day at a Mormon Temple. Alecia and I used to walk every morning to the bus stop together in junior high (junior high!) and back home together once the bus dropped us off. We wrote countless letters and talked about the reasons she shouldn’t like some loser boy and what flavor of the week I had my eye on. The silly thing is, she was cleaning out her bedroom at her folks’ house a month or so ago and found these memories that were so important to little 12-year-old girls in 1990.

As most wedding receptions go, we got our 5 minute of face time with the beautiful bride before she was whisked away for photo ops and such, but we knew to expect that since that is how weddings go! It didn’t matter that we hadn’t seen Alecia in 2 1/2 years since we had such a great time catching up with the people at our table–other Chino High alum! One who I knew from my 2nd grade class (and still knew her middle name and birthday- weird?)… another gal also from our days at the local elementary school (she shared stories of life with having 4 children in five years, eek.) and our former class president (who currently is a weather anchor for a station down in Miami!). We laughed, giggled, shared crazy stories of college, marriage and having young children…The class of 1995  had a mini-reunion night thanks to Alecia and Joe and if last night proves to be any indication as to how fun our real class reunion will be, then baby, sign us up!

What I’m thinking about

…is that I used to write letters on pretty stationery and buy beautiful, artisticly decorated cards. Today I went to send some pictures to my friend Holly and noticed that I was running low on some larger sized cards that I usually have a good stash of. Since I started making my own cards a couple of years ago, I stopped buying cards. I stopped writing letters since e-mail and am throroughly disappointed in myslef because I grew up being a dependable penpal. That was my justification for buying outrageously loud Hello Kitty stationery packs and handmade notecards from B & N. So today, I think I’ll treat myself to some pretty stationery and next week write someone a letter. That’s what I’m thinking about.

Toto & Tuffy

Who is Toto and Tuffy you might ask? Surely the Sincocks didn’t get any pets, or did they you may ask yourself?

No, friend, up until yesterday, I did not even know that we had Toto and Tuffy residing on our premises, but alas, we do. And thank you, Lord, for each one of them. I have unfortunately become a little too acquainted with Toto and Tuffy, our upstairs and downstairs toilets. My face met the porcelain thrones yesterday after my stomach decided to erupt- 12 times. Not a huge surprise since Andy has had the stomach bug all week. Poor guy. Poor me. We have never been sick together- in fact, each of us keep asking for sympathy from one another. I just hope the girlies don’t have to meet Toto and Tuffy, albeit their fun names.

So I’m feeling better, but I haven’t had anything to eat since lunch yesterday. I’m kind of afraid to. That eruption yesterday was like a total body experience. My back is sore. I took Ashy to the doctor for her 2 month check-up this morning and the doctor informed me that this is stomach flu season and totally normal for our bodies to get rid of toxins and such. Lucky us!

**ETA:

Hee-hee, despite my tendency to name plants and such, I did not name the toilets- I noticed while hovering over that each toilet has a name imprinted on the porcelain- we’ll attribute it to the name brand!

A+ for effort

Img_4457_edited1Try as I may, I cannot get the Bean to eat a PB & J sandwich. I had this brilliant idea to disguise the sandwich and make it look like something familiar- a star or a cross that we play with during playdough time. No such luck, the kid does not like anything that isn’t covered in deep fried fattening bread crumbs (i.e. fish sticks, chicken tenders, taquitos). I have heard, or read, or dreamed possibly, that toddlers will take to liking some food after ten attempts at presenting it to them. Tomorrow I think I’ll pull out the snowman cookie cutter. Surely this 2-year-old cannot resist a snowman?!

Movie Quote Hits Home

Cut During my walk this morning, I was thinking randomly about The Cutting Edge II coming out sometime. I’m not really sure when or maybe it’s going straight to video, but  The Cutting Edge is one my all time favorite movies. I have no idea why. Maybe it’s because my dad and I used to watch it everytime it popped up on cable. I still do.

So Kate says:

"The difference is, I’m in the mood to kick a little a@@."

And today, that’s how I feel.

{overheard in my head: C’mon last 15 pounds get off me!}

Celebrate

So much to celebrate this weekend:

1. My dad. My husbandly. Happy Father’s Day :) Img_6872

2. My parents. Today they celebrate 23 years of marriage. Happy Anniversary, you two!

3. My little brother, Tyler. He became the "Wolverine of the Year" for the second year in a row. Who does things like that? Happy summer vacation before your freshman year, buddy.Img_6853_1
