Flashback Friday: Sarah’s First Ice Cream

Sarah_first_ice_creamI mean to scrap this photo of Sarah enjoying her first taste of ice cream a couple of summers ago. But I never did… anyway, her first taste of ice cream at Sea World. She was 13-months-old. How about that face? Yum.

On Why You Should Invest in Guide Books

Traveler
For my fellow summer travelers, actually, just friends that are traveling this summer since my plans to travel have been thwarted by the untimely death of our refrigerator (did I mention it sometime stinks to be an adult?), I thought I would suggest to you to invest into a guide book. No, not the freebies that AAA will hand over if you go smile and say, "Ft. Lauderdale, Florida information please" then add another quick smile. I am talking about the Frommer’s Guides or the Guidebooks from National Georgraphic Traveler. Guide books like these give you a virtual tour guide of the nooks and crannies of tourist destaintions. They  provide you insights you wouldn’t have seen on a travel brochure promoting hidden beautiful white sandy beaches. These books tell you better ways to hit the road to get where you want to get going (but you still might make circles if Andy is driving). The guidebooks can be dog-earred and posted noted (is that a word?) before an itinerary is set– even before you leave the house.

Lest you think that a fifteen dollar book won’t be worth money well spent… on the contrary– You will get the most out of your three-thousand dollar vacation. Just as long as you don’t leave it on the counter when you are packing your bags. We did that when we went to D.C. and could have kicked ourselves! Happy vacationing!

Wacky Dreams

I had a dream last night that my dad’s best friend’s granddaughter was kidnapped when she was four. By the way, she wasn’t, but the entire night I was afraid and frustrated and had to fill out large transparency paperwork. Weird.

In between that dream, I was dreaming about the crazy weather and the sky scooping us up (it’s been hot, muggy, thunderstormy and rainy and then hot and muggy again, but the sunsets have created this amazing illuminated orange sky.

And one more dream just to make sure I didn’t sleep much at all… I dreamt about Thai Chicken Wraps. And that I couldn’t possibly make them as delicious as Mimis Cafe does, but I tried.

I don’t think I have ever been so thankful that 6AM arrived and Sarah was ready for juice and breakfast.

Whoever Said 29-year-olds Were Old…

Pool_noodle_fight…must have been fourteen.
Unfortunately, the fourteen-year-old (Tyler) that calls me an ‘Old Fogey’ will still have grounds to torture me when he’s 29 because I’ll be in my forties, sheesh.
My birthday was smashing, thank you everyone for your kind birthday wishes and to my suziebeezieland friends that made me blush :) You know who you are!
We bought some pool noodles at Target yesterday and found a wonderful inside use for them- light sabers (never mind the out of control background, I was on clean-up strike on my birthday, thankyouverymuch). It’s been about a billion degrees outside, so I think we’ll find our way to the pool today.
Susie_kiss_ash Here’s the cutest fourteen-month-old monkey that now inhabits our home (have you been paying attention to the Daily Grind? She is climbing up on EVERYTHING! We are considering turning the chairs on their sides…) and Andy trying out my (our) new Canon Speedlite. I have to go find some dark areas of our home now and experiment…

We Played Hookie

We played hookie from church this morning and decided to hit La Jolla Shores instead. Unlike her big sister’s first visit to the ocean, Ash went straight for the water (that stuff on her bottom is just black sand, I promise).

Do you ever feel like you have nothing to say?

That’s how I’ve been feeling. Nothing blogworthy this weekend.
No soapbox.
No scrapbooking info.
No – oh wait, we did have a fun Family Adventure yesterday- we went to the Embarcadero and Seaport Village in the afternoon. The girls road the carousel and Andy was fascinated by reading about the oceanic battles of the aircraft carriers during World War II. True to San Diego weather, it was overcast and grey out so we didn’t stay too long.
No photos since I didn’t grab the camera on the way out- arg.
And that’s about it.
I am off to make some biscuits and gravy now for breakfast (shhh, it sounds good, don’t remind me about calorie intake!).
And Andy can now read an ‘updated’ blog.
Happy Sunday, friends.

Flashback Friday: Summertime in Palm Desert

Susie_palm_desertDid I mention that summertime has arrived? Yippee! It’s one of my four favorite seasons!
Many summers ago, my grandma used to take me out to Palm Desert (a neighboring city of Palm Springs) for weekends at a time and we would stay at the the same hotel where she knew the owners and we would play and play and lounge and play and eat all weekend long. We went with my mom and aunt and sometimes my Poppy, that is, until there were new owners and then we sorta stopped going. I spied this photo in a batch of loose photos Andy and I have and it just reminded me of how many good summer memories I have. So here’s my first of many more summertime memories to come.

Ten Things You Can Reuse Your Target Bag For

As seen on the side of said bag:

Do I detect a giggle? Are you wondering what I might scan in next? Me, too!!

Names I’ve Been Referred to As (the ones that can be repeated)

Lava Lava Queen Mama made me think up this entry… names to which people refer to me as:

Susie Q
Suz
Sissy (somehow, my family never shook that one)
The Q
Benny (my last name was formerly Benfield)
Silly Goose
Scooz Bomb
Cute Lil Suz
Schmooz (hehe, that cracks me up)
Teacher
Ms. Benfield
Mrs. Sincock
Wifely
Grumpy
Friendly

The former three were given to me by my husband, I love his terms of endearment.  Even when I am grumpy. At least it isn’t Dopey. heheh

I think that’s it for me. Do you have any fun names people refer to you as?

Did You Know?

Ss_magazine_coverDid you know that my husband is not only a computer god, I mean, geek, and Warcrafting guru but he also likes to dabble into scrapbooking? He even subscribes to a couple of magazines! I’m not really the one who is an addict…check out who’s name is on this!

And since he got me going on the digital scrapping thing, I’ll share one of his layouts, too (I’m glad he has such a kick-back personality that makes embarrassing  him weekly on here so much easier!):
