Life is Good
Yummy Ice Cream
We took our Family Night out on the town this past week to one of our favorite places- Coldstones Creamery! Nevermind that it was 59 degrees outside while Ashleigh was shivering eating her ice cream treat…
If you can guess correctly the size, ice cream and mix-in I chose, I have a ten dollar gift card waiting to send to you!
Watch Out World, I’m TWO!!
Should you be wondering what a little two-year-old loves to do these days? Splashing in puddles and going shopping with your new shopping cart is high on the list. Other priorities — coloring (um, scribbling), smashing, tearing and eating play-doh pieces and competing with big sis on the big wheel is also part of her interests. Ooooooooh yeah, and eating sand.
Let’s not mention looking cute to boot.
Dude.
Had I known that a reflector would be this fun, I would have begged, borrowed and stole money from the discretionary fund months ago.
What you can’t see is pretty comical- my left arm holding the baby, camera in right hand and the reflector being held up and angled between my feet. Gotta love being a mom.
On Why I Cheated on My Hairstylist
It was for a good cause. I swear.
A few weeks ago, our church had put an announcement in the weekly bulletin for a fundraiser for a children’s orphanage in Mexico. Salon services would be offered at half-off and all proceeds would go to the orphanage- how could one not pass up this opportunity? Well, one could if they are a loyal and faithful client to their hairstylist (ahem, me), but it was 1. For a good cause and 2. A good deal. I couldn’t pass it up.
So. On Sunday, I drove over to the ‘other’ salon where I was greeted with friendly faces and a busy office space. After a cold water shampoo (the place was hoppin’ all morning with eager heads to be groomed and styled- thus, no hot water left), I was placed into the likes of Master Hairstylist Gionni, his hands nothing short of Edward Scissorhands himself. His Italian accent was heavy enough for me not to be able to make out every word he was saying- sometimes I would catch ‘chic’, ’short’, ‘flippy’ or his unfortunate description of my current style- ‘boring.’ He spent about ten minutes describing how he would like to frame my face and explained to me the look I should be going for.
"Look," I thought aloud in my head, "I am growing it out- I just want my twenty layers from last year to meet up so I can have a long beautiful mane again (that’s not to say that it was beautiful, but sometimes when you have short hair, all you can think about are the glory days of long hair)."
But it didn’t come out audibly. Or, I was being misunderstood by nods and eyebrow raising since I was trying so hard to follow his pre-butcher consultation. And in a moment of weakness, I okayed the whole process and he made me look like this:
At the end of the haircut (and most-amazing head massage in the process), I thought, not only have I cheated on my hairstylist, I now have to explain to her that this man really knew what he was doing with the round-about-way of talking me into chopping it again. And I couldn’t do it. I’m a wimp and I couldn’t face her ever again. So, I asked the small-framed Hair Master if he had a business card. I would have to change my hairstylist after this ordeal.
Come to find out, Mr. S came down from L.A. just for the afternoon. His day job is spent styling the pretty people at a modeling agency. He was a special guest star.
Of course. I totally cheated on my hairstylist. Totally.

Family Adventuring to the Botanical Gardens
We missed out on our playgroup’s adventure to the local Botanical Gardens this past week, so we decided to venture out that way as a family outing this past Saturday. Andy and I had no idea how large that place was! A small garden area and scavenger hunt had been created for the kids that included a place where younger visitors could make their own flower arrangement with some adult assistance. The spring weather was nice and breezy and Andy was able to catch some nice shots of natural texture (he’s convinced that I am going to make my own scrapbook paper from his picture of the palm tree’s birch. Um, yeah. No).
All around the grounds, there were plenty of interesting plants and foliage that made us keep wanting to see more- but mostly, the mobile and energetic ones were having a good time. I think we all did.

This sign made me laugh:
That’s just a cool looking cactus:
Every single picture Andy took of me, I am in this silly cheerleader pose. Why, oh, why? More proof that high school never ends.
Andy caught some fabulous nature shots:
And finally, Sarah and Ashleigh simply enjoying their surroundings.
Good times, good times.
Happy Belated Bloggiversary :)
I missed my bloggiversary by a few days- but Happy Belated Bloggiversary {decorate your soul}. I never set out with a vision for this place , but someone else I knew was doing it, so I hopped on the bandwagon. Well, she made it look so cool… I think a few of you followed the bandwagon, yes? Blogs are kind of addicting. They can be time consuming, informative or just plain silly. So, in celebration of my bloggiversary, I have chosen a few of my favorite posts from the past two years.
3. The Completion of the Nursery
6. The First Installment of Ten on Tuesday
8. Idiot’s Guide to Parking SUVs (I hope I don’t offend anyone)
9. The Dance (I’m still giggling over this)
10. My Goofy Family
….
I had forgotten how many good memories I’ve made here. Thanks for visiting friends
You make me want to come back and play some more.
Sus
Ten on Tuesday
1. Andy wanted a beer a couple of weeks ago- so he bought a case of his favorite kind at Costco- which is as much beer as he has drank since 1998, I think.
2. We downloaded some Micheal Jackson songs last night. Songs like Thriller, Billie Jean, and Man in the Mirror. We’ve been cuttin’ a mean rug ever since.
3. My girlfriend brought me hello yellow daffodils on Thursday and we went away for the weekend… and they aren’t looking so good today.
4. We went to leave my folks’ on Easter and our truck had a flat tire. I couldn’t remember the last time I had a flat before that, so I guess my time was due.
5. I was so excited to discover that mini-sized Play-doh jars fit into large sized plastic Easter eggs. I called three people to share my excitement
And now I am spreading it in the blogosphere…
6. My little brother is staying the week with us since it is his Spring Break. He’s taller than me now, his feet are bigger than mine and he keeps reminding me how old I am. When did he turn into a guy?
7. I received a package full of lovely cards yesterday and sent three of them out already- I love my card swap group
8. Ashleigh is a mess- she ate colorful yogurt at lunch, dropped some of the pink stuff on her shirt and some of the blue stuff on her shorts. She’s looking like a speckled bird or a poison dart frog right now.
9. Grandma Sincock took Sarah to Disneyland for the first time on Friday- and ohmygoodness did the Bean have a good time! She walked into the house with a painted kitty cat face, lavender Minnie ears and three oversized helium filled balloons- the girl was 1. exhausted and 2. very happy.
10. We celebrated my brother-in-law’s birthday this past weekend, too. With permission, I have this comical photo of him to post. Minnie ears borrowed from the Bean.
Most Ridiculous Item of the Week
“Mommy, Can I have more babies for my birthday?
Sarah is ALL about her babies. From left to right, Emilee Maja (named after friends, Emilee and Maja), then Baby Faith (named after her new friend Faith) and Veronica, named after my friend Veronica. And she is such a good mommy to them, how can I not get her more babies?
That Sarah, she is just too much.
