Ten on Tuesday

1. We have been offered a renewed lease at this house (mom, that was what I forgot to tell you on the phone). I think we just might stay since the idea of moving everything we have to another location in four weeks outweighs the glorious idea of having a full backyard, a kitchen that isn’t made for single folk, and possibly another room.

2. Andy has now installed four hard drives and a speedy quick processor in our CPU in the last week. I think he thinks he can take over the world soon.

3. Andy and I were at the movies this afternoon (I know, on a Tuesday! without kids!) when I stopped at the in house ATM to get cash for the sitter. The two lines that direct you to choose English or Spanish on the screen were not lined up well with the buttons you are supposed to press, so I inadvertently chose Spanish. And laughed and guessed my way threw six more screens that were in a foreign language. Luckily, I have taken enough money out of ATM’s to guess which screen says what!

4. My nails are growing fairly evenly. I always wonder why one hand is always nice and strong and the other lacks firmness.

5. I totally need a new pillow. The one I own is of the cushy, plush variety. My head sinks into it. I need a four dollar firm one so I don’t have to fold the forty-dollar fluff under my head.

6. In the large scheme of things, I wonder if that will really make me a happier sleeper.

7. I went to my girlfriend’s baby-shower this past weekend and discovered that I am always sitting at the rowdy table. Then it made me think, if I’m at the loud(er) table all the time, maybe it’s me. Nah. Couldn’t be.

8. Second installment of a 5-Card Workshop is coming up- which means I am in the thinking-about- getting-my scrap-space-clean-so-I can-get-creative-mode…

9. I cheated on my hairstylist for the third time and am definitely thinking we are officially broken up. The good news is, the experience now costs ten dollars less (which really means, a happier Andy).

10. The girls spent a weekend at my mother-in-law where she found our Ashleigh curled up and asleep in the pet bed one afternoon. Is this not the cutest thing?

Weekends and Summertime

My blog has been a bit neglected lately. Seems that weekends mixed with summertime draw us outdoors to play and splash and run and swing (and jump, but you probably knew that).

I thought I would check in with my friends. You know the ones…

What Can you Do-oo-oo With a Paper Towel Tube?

(that title is sung to the tune of "What Would You Do-oo-oo for a Klondike Bar?")

My dad calls paper towel tubes "To-do-duh-dos." Why? Because you can put it up to your mouth and sing to-do-duh-do! (Maybe this is better left to a video clip- I’ll be back with that).

Tubes can also be used for spying out little American Idol Rock Stars (we don’t watch the show, but somehow we have become owners of a little microphone) (this capture idea was stolen from Mindi):

And…

I mean, I can’t be sure, but I think this qualifies as sitting:

Good Job, Lo!

The Marriage Retreat

A few months ago, our church announced an upcoming marriage retreat and I was ready to go. Basically, my bags were packed before we had a hotel room. But… our budget didn’t really have room for it. See, June happens to be like Christmas around these parts with birthday celebrations, Father’s Day, an anniversary and car registration to take care of, our income is tapped dry. So, no marriage retreat for us.

Then, one Sunday, I was sitting in church and I felt the gentle nudge of the Holy Spirit remind me that I hadn’t really prayed about it. And wouldn’t you know, I hadn’t. Sometimes I fear that I put God in a box and don’t really let Him do the work He is capable and well experienced at when I try to do things myself. So, I sat there during worship and just asked Him to know my heart, that if it was His will for Andy and I to go to the marriage retreat, that He would show us how to work it out in our budget, or in general work- just to work it out.

Before bed that night, I checked my e-mail (because I compulsively check it, I am not even going to sugarcoat it) and in my inbox was a note asking how would Andy and I like to go to the retreat for free- they needed a photographer for the event. Um, yes. End of story.

So, that’s how we got to go to the desert this past weekend- but the story doesn’t end there. We needed childcare. I discussed the options with Andy and I called my mother-in-law. And wouldn’t you know, she just happened to be off from work the very same weekend as the retreat and quickly accepted her weekend with the girlies!

That is why you cannot put God in a shoe box. He has plans bigger than the ones we can plan ourselves. I couldn’t have planned it all out any better. Really.

So, the weekend came and we were set to be the photographer for the event (Andy’s job: hold the reflector- and might I add, he did a very good job), but there was a bit of a hitch- no one wanted to come outside in the 106 degree heat for a quick photo upon arrival (see the blue bench in front of the waterfall- perfect location for couples’ photos, right?).

So we changed the day. And the location. But in the mean time, I found this super fun, colorful tiled wall to snap photos in front of. I really wanted to hang out here all weekend. But it was outside in the blistering heat. I convinced some friends to follow me to the wall:

That’s Megan and Aaron- they are expecting Baby #2 this fall- aren’t they cute?

Most of the couples from our Young Married’s small group went to the retreat this weekend and aside from being filled up with solid messages by our pastoral staff, we hit the pool with these good people where we played some sort of crazy noodle / beach ball game. Then we shared our "how we met’ stories and of course, what’s a church gathering without food?

Finally, what kind of event would it be (with Susie) if I didn’t get the whole crew in front of that wall without a jump?

Good times, good times. And now we’re home.

Hey- have you jumped lately?

When Three Strikes and You Call it a Day.

1. I spent the weekend without the baby and without a working pump and this morning, I’m all dried up. I felt horrible.

2. I went to get the clothes out of the dryer this morning and a pen was left in a pocket. 4 pairs of (new) shorts, 3 (newer) shirts, a pair of (you guessed it, new) swim trunks ruined by an ink pen that burst open. Ugh.

3. I fetched my necklace chain out of the washer tonight. It was stuck in one of the drain holes and as I pulled, the chain broke.

That’s three.

I’m calling it a day.

But not without a preview of our fun weekend:

Observations in L.A.

I came to a stop and the man driving the car next to me was fitting in a flute practice session. I mean, he was really playing his flute at the stoplight.

I really enjoy watching the planes come in two at a time at LAX. It fascinates me how they are synced up to land at the same time.

I do not miss the crazy traffic in the LA area. Last minute lane changes and bumper to bumper traffic, blech.

KIIS FM knows how to throw a mean party. My friend (that until today only lived in the computer) Christine and I met at Griffith Park today and whilst there, a Family Fun Day was occuring by the well-known LA radio station where our kids got to jump in a bounce house, get their faces painted and see a magic show. Such a wonderful time!

And we’re off to the desert.

Ten on Tuesday

1. I just fixed my wireless connection without my IT guy. I am so proud of myself, you’d think I had just rescued a cat from a tree, geez.

2. I don’t rescue cats from trees, mostly because a. I don’t climb trees and b. I am not much of a cat fan. I also don’t go out of my way to hurt them, though. I have a weird aversion toward cats- they are just so independent and then their nails- they have big, long, sharp nails. That must be it.

3. My sister sent me a text the other day with a photo of her new tattoo, only to find out she didn’t get one, she got henna’d.

4. My camera lens put a dent in my dresser.

5. I do not like meatloaf. My mom made me eat it when I was little. So, to swallow it down, I toasted bread, added gobs of barbecue sauce and threw the tiniest sliver of meat down to make a sandwich. Still, ick. Funny thing- Andy loves loves meatloaf.

6. I have now insulted cat lovers and meatloaf lovers which is never my intention, so please excuse my manners tonight.

7. How about an update on the girls? Lauren is officially an army crawler / scooter, but still isn’t sitting.

8. After begging Ashleigh to wear just a little something in her hair, I finally took some sheers to the front and she has bangs. I didn’t want to, but I couldn’t see her pretty little face.

9. Sarah is learning to be a bit more modest, which gives me hope that she won’t be changing her bathing suit in front of our guests for the rest of her life. Thank you, Jesus.

10. I have decided that showing photos {of other people and their children} for my photo business sake might be a little weird for my personal blog. Most recent sessions can now be found at Catchlight News. Check in tomorrow, at say 10:43AM…

See ya :)

A Few Product Endorsements

1. Chocolate Chex Mix Turtle. My new favorite grab it and pop it in snack. A wonderful mix of salty and sweet combines to satisfy both needs on your palate. Yum. Chex never disappoints.

Chocchexturtle

2. Kirkland Signature Diaper Wipes- These wipes are sold in bulk (wait- what isn’t sold in bulk at Costco?) and with 8 packages of 88 wipes each, these wipes top our list for best bargain finder for cleaning up bottoms, hands, faces, etc. I was really impressed with these wipes after my daughter wrote up and down her arm with a permanent black felt marker and one wipe took off the mess. Awesome. Also, since there are eight packages per box, it’s real easy to throw one in the car, the picnic basket, Petunia, the real changing station, etc. Love these.

3.

Paper-Source anything. Of course they have all your cardmaking needs, but the paper is exquisite and there are a variety of colors and ohmygoodness could I hoard the stuff like crazy. But I have to share, too. I know.

4. Dora the Explorer Game House (I can’t believe I am endorsing this one since it has a thousand pieces)- Sarah just received this game from Shannon and not only does she love it, we have found it entertaining, too. There are six different games to choose from and the "house" holds the pieces in the drawer (you will have to find an organizing system for all of them, but it’s doable). From quick games like Crazy Eight to longer games like Bingo and Checkers- both of the adults and the younger ones are involved (Ashleigh lines up the Domino pieces).

5. Household wipes- grab one, clean the kitchen counter. Grab another, clean the bathroom counter, grab one, clean the top of the washer and dryer. I keep them under each sink for quick accessibility. I am now officially a wipe kind of gal. I have glass wipes and countertop wipes and I have heard there are even wood cleaning wipes…

Is this Age Discrimination?

Not that I watch the show, because I don’t.

Or that I have a voice that I could sing with, because I can’t.

Or that I would even have the guts to try out (or a baysitter).

But if I wanted to, American Idol is coming to town.

And I wouldn’t even qualify to try out.

The age range is 16-28.

Did you hear me? Twenty-eight!

I am officially too old for something.

Hmph.
