Friday Five: 5 things I know for sure

1. Siblings that play with one another must be one of the best forms of free entertainment ever.

2. The trash truck is never late for the 7AM pick-up on special Friday morning sleep-in days.

3. With three kids,  I will not get one peaceful night of sleep ever again. A forwarning to my friends without kids. Enjoy your sleep now!

4. New shoes instantly make a day better.

5. Husbandlys are the best form of best friends.

Happy Friday :)

Gettin’ Fancy

The other day, we were at Barnes and Noble and picked up the book Fancy Nancy and read with delight the story of a little girl that had words (and clothes and beads and feathers!) to fancy anything ordinary up. This little Nancy was determined to give her family a fancy overhaul and even convinced them to dress up all fancy to go out for hamburgers. Because they were good sports, they did. Fast forward to  Friday night, as were leaving to go out for dinner, the girls decided they wanted to get fancy, too. This is what they came out looking like: the Princess Pat and Lindsay Lohan:

They had me giggling, I tell you. Wait, we have to get a closer look:

Silly girls.

Medical Update

Guess what? Everything with my head is normal. At this point, there is nothing to be alarmed about- the doctor suggested going without my glasses for a few days, do I am currently driving blind- okay just kidding, I have contacts in and am hoping that the specs were pressing a nerve causing the numbness.

She also said it could be a benign cyst pressing on an internal nerve, but none of it is cranial. So, that’s the official report. Thank you so much for your thoughts and concerns on my head trauma/drama. I told Andy, I’m the healthy one around here, what’s going on?

We’re off to the beach- here’s a recent shot of a little beach comber for you to enjoy!

On Possible Reasons Why My Head is Numb

Two nights ago, I began to have some major pain concentrated in the lower part of my head where the base of my skull meets my neck. A bump has appeared and it measures about the size of a half-dollar (but, the other side of my head has the same bump, so I’m not going off that). I thought it might be a headache, but when I took some Aleve and woke up with the same problem, I wondered what could be causing the pain in my nape. Well, tonight, the pain has spread and half my head is numb. I am not dizzy nor do I feel faint, but what’s a girl to do? I visited the Web MD (shh.. my regular MD will not be happy to hear about this unplanned visit where I try to diagnose my own symptoms).

After reading countless threads on the web, here are a few things that could possibly be wrong with me:

  • I have Paget’s Disease with some minor bone deformation causing my head to be abnormally sized (maybe those hats will come in use after all)
  • I have infected lymph nodes
  • My first guess was a tumor, but Andy assured me that bumps like that don’t grow in a day
  • I could have a pinched nerve
  • I am overstressed and the tension is concentrating in that part of my body

I am off to combat the pain with some rest and relaxation and am calling the real life doctor tomorrow. Wish me luck.

8 Random Things

My friend Nely tagged me to come up with 8 random things about myself. Just when I think cyberspace knows everything about me, I have to come up with some new things I haven’t told… hmm.

1. I have a collection of hats that don’t really look good on me. I think my forehead is too big or something, so all these fun Gilligan style hats sit in a drawer.

2. I also have a large collection of colorful stripey, floral, and holiday type socks that I wear without restraint through the fall and winter months. There was a little girl named Emma in my class the last year I taught that always wore "fun socks" and every morning, first thing, we would lift the foot of our pants up a bit and compare the socks we wore. For that reason, I cannot bring myself to get rid of any of them.

3. I have never met a Sarah I didn’t like. It still remains true. And when someone mistakenly calls me Sarah, I am always flattered.

4. Sometimes I read the obituaries to see how people are being remembered. Lately I can’t help but wonder if mine might have a line like, "and she liked to jump a lot." Never mind, how morbid to think about.

5. I no longer own maternity clothes. How’s that for final?

6. Once I danced on a bar in NYC. At the time, I was a kindergarten teacher and the lady dancing beside me was a lawyer from Jersey. That was the wildest thing I think I’ve done on a whim.

7. The last book I read was by Karen Kingsbury- I liked it so much, I bought two more novels by her.

8. I am currently growing my hair out. I have spent the last five years going short and long and somewhere in between that I thought I would again revisit the days of my youth.

I tag my friends that have blogger accounts that don’t let me tap into their blog updates through bloglines …  that would be Jenny, Chrissy and Stacy. You would see me more if bloglines hooked me up :)

Flashback Friday: The Look Alikes

A lot of folks think my girls all look alike. I tend to think it’s more Sarah and Lauren that look alike than all three of them. I snapped this photo (right) of Lauren yesterday because she was wearing this cute Eric Carle jumper and it reminded me that I have this photo of the Bean from when she was just shy of a year old wearing the same outfit (on the left). So, I thought, let’s do a side-by-side comparison to see how much they look alike.

I mean, I can totally tell them apart, but I think there is a lot of similarities, too. OH manm, I just want to kiss those cheeks now. Hold on, be right back.

Scrumptious.

Lauren also turned eight-months-old this week. She is showing many signs of being a spitfire – she is constantly on the go following me around the floor and just this week, she began to pull up to a stand. She can give a high five and sometimes waves, but by far her favorite thing to do to pass the time is give me a heart attack by putting scraps of whatever is found on the floor right into her mouth. And proceed to choke on it. Stinker.

Mental Note: Take up vacuuming on a more regular basis.

Lauren has discovered that rides outside in the VW are cool cool cool. But only for a few minutes at a time, then, back to the army crawl, find something little to choke on and eat :)

Her First Sleepover

We knew it would happen one day. With three girls in the house, it is inevitable… sleepovers. Sarah had her first sleepover last night- her friend Hope came over and we played games, ate pizza, swam in the pool until the street lights came on, watched Dora with some popcorn, sang songs, read books and then, went to bed 2 hours past their bedtime. Last night was also the first night we finally had the second mattress for the top bunk… the girls loved it!

Andy and I could hear Sarah and Hope from the living room chatting about their sleeping bags and telling a few knock knock jokes. Sarah doesn’t quite understand how to make it funny yet, so she said something like, "Knock, Knock," to which Hope answered, "Who’s there?" and Sarah said, "Bunk Bed" and Hope politely replied, "Bunk Bed who?" and we  listened very carefully for her response, "Bunk Bed with Two Mattresses!" Then little girl giggling followed and the parents were on the sofa snickering at one another. I think Andy is getting his fill of how silly little girls are!

Like all overnighters, the friend has to go home and the hostess has to take an afternoon nap because she stayed up past her bedtime and was so excited to still have a friend over at 6AM that that’s when they started their day. This is Sarah passed out on the sofa about twenty minutes after Hope left.

I would say her first sleepover was a success.

A Typical Late Summer Afternoon

The girls are all playing outside and I am taking pictures:

Andy comes home from work and all the girls migrate toward him, love on him and bat their sweet eyes to get him to go swimming with them:

Andy always says, "Maybe after dinner." And he almost always agrees… he likes to make a splash when he enters:

Ashleigh loves to hang out on the steps:

Sarah has been building up her courage in the pool this summer and is showing off one of her many jumps:

Last night, we found this really cool feature in the water: the pool light.
