Halloween Recap

I bought Lolo this cutie pumpkin cap.9

She hates it.

And proceeded to tear it off.

We had better luck with her bumblebee antennae.

I thought she was the cutest bumblebee ever.

The one I always dread- getting them all to look before Lauren splits to devour some rocks:

Bah humbug.

Our church hosted a spectacular Harvest Festival (READ: Free candy and rides without the work of trick or treating):

The best is running into friends! Pictured with my insects are Charger Cheerleaders Emilee and Ashley:

Happy Halloween, Blogland!

Ten on Tuesday- the Wednesday Edition

1. It’s Halloween- yay! I get to dress up today :)

2. Oh wait, thirty-year-old moms don’t dress up- but her cutie girls can.

3. I have googly eyes sitting on a white piece of paper in front of me… spooky!

4. Andy and I had an awesome time this past weekend in Colorado and only nine more sleeps until I see him again. I got to visit Vonnie and her 3 boys and the Shertzers and Stahrs. Thank you all for your hospitality :) It was good to visit old friends and new in real time.

5. The plumber came yesterday and he didn’t have a business card, or a shirt with his business name or a logo on his van. That’s a little shady- dontcha think? I closed the door on his face until I called the phone number that was given to me and he answered the line in his unmarked van. I’m so paranoid.

6. Or is that just being cautious?

7. Strawberry Twizzlers are my new favorite sweet treat. Thanks a lot, Sarah!

8. My Sarah hasn’t been to preschool in a week and a half. Girl is itchin’ to go.

9. Lauren has the most adorable wave as of late. She twirls her right hand in a clockwise direction. Melt. My. Heart.

10. A little preview of what might be seen tonight at 5 o’clock- cutie insects :)

Any Questions?

The Sincocks Girls’ Update

Hey friends :)

I am so touched by your concern and sweet words and comments :) It was definitely a day brightener when I sat down at the computer just briefly yesterday. Our day began at 5:30 when Cory called me and I ignored the phone (that’s what happens when you stay up until midnight and need to squeeze more minutes into your sleep) and twenty minutes later the phone rang again, so I thought, well, it must be important). It was my friend Becky and in my sleepy and dazed state, I managed to hear something like, "You are being evacuated and you can come over here if you need to." And I did. I checked what the neighbors were doing and just minutes later as I was fumbling around to find the bare essentials, a neighbor knocked on the door and when I opened, she said, "Susie, it’s time to go- the smoke is on the other side of our hill." If you do not know, we live on the end of the cul-de-sac and are in close proximity to dry brush.

We headed south to my friend Becky’s- I’ve never packed for four people faster!-and stayed there for what turned out to be the earliest play date in the Sincock’s history book We were there until the afternoon when a precautionary evacuation was ordered for her neighborhood. The girls and I went a little further south to my friend Sarah’s where we spent the latter half of the day and night. I mention some of my friends that helped us immediately but there were countless friends and loved ones that called and sent e-mails and poured out general concerns to which I have not had time to respond. I want to say that not only am I grateful, but incredibly blessed. Thank you is not enough, I think more that I am humbled that you would think of us down in the San Diego area.

We were given the go ahead to go
back home today- my neighborhood has not been touched at all, but it
was desolate and quiet and when I saw a helicopter fly over with more
water drops, I decided to head up here to my folks’ house. The freeway that connects us was off and on closed yesterday and this afternoon, it was reported open. There was a scary part of the drive when the winds shifted an
eastern moving fire back toward the freeway (the Palomar Mt. fire one) and we were only five minutes from it.
Actually, I was kind of shaking. Scary stuff. Since we arrived here
they closed the 15 FWY again due to that fire.

Our pastor sent out an e-mail today that helped direct our prayers-
please consider praying for this when you are in quiet time today:

Together we can pray for the Lord to change the winds, for His divine
protection, that there will be no more loss of life, and that the fires
will be put out soon. Please pray for the firefighters and all the
brave men and women working hard to protect and take care of people’s
needs.

We have many friends in neighboring communities (Rancho Bernardo is just a couple of miles north and they were hit badly) that indeed have been severely hit by these wildfires- I hope you will join me in keeping them in prayers, too.

fire

This is Andy posting for Susie.

Susie and the girls are OK.  They have been evacuated and are staying with friends.  The best I can tell the Witch fire is 1-2 miles north of the house, and mostly moving west.  I am hopeful that our house will be OK, but this will affect many of our friends in one way or another.

They are asking people to stay off cell phones so wait to call, just pray for now.

or, just Animal.

I see a peek into our future…

Notes to self

Do not leave anything on the table that you don’t want your two year old to get to. For example- markers and cookie dough. Both will appear all over her sweet face as soon as you turn your back.

Do not make a pan of brownies the night before your husband leaves out of town. You have little to no self control.

Signing up to make three dozen sugar cookies is never a better option to say, buying sprinkles for your kid’s class party. Take the easier route next time, Sus.

Practice saying no. You cannot do everything. Even the laundry has to get done sometimes.

Remember to check under the grocery cart and under the stroller before you leave any store that sells small items. Your kids like to stow things under and guess what? It’s still called shoplifting.

The Big Purse

For many years, I was a tiny leather bag kind of purse gal. All I needed it to hold was my compact, my keys, sometimes my cell phone and my wallet. After all, what other important thing needs to be toted around 24-7? After I had Sarah, I graduated myself to a bowling ball sized purse since I didn’t always want to drag the diaper bag in the store with me- I just needed to add a juice cup and crackers and we were set. Andy and I have a running joke that these are also Canadian sized bags- when we lived in Montana and visited Calgary, a high number of ladies from Canada donned oversized bags for their purses. I verified this with my  girlfriend Michelle, this morning. Yes indeed, she has a large bag as a purse. But I digress. The problem with a bowling ball sized purse is that all the little things that were important fall to the bottom. Of course I know this and that’s why I went back to a simple sized handbag not too long after buying my first BIG purse.

Until I saw this. I was walking around the Marine Exchange a month ago and saw this super cute Fossil bag. I fell in love with it’s loftiness, it’s stylish blocks of varied designs and of course, the ability to throw in a few mommy essentials as opposed to taking Petunia everywhere (she’s the diaper bag- remember, I’m weird and name things?). So I present, the new bowling ball sized purse (yet stylish!):

1_2

Now if I visit Canada, I will totally look like a local. I’m sure of it. And yes, every small item gets lost at the bottom. Which brings me to the next thing I can be sure of- It is likely that I will be digging out my smaller purse before the end of the season.

{quote-unquote}

I came across a slew of quotes in my use-this-for-later-binder, and guess what? I’ve never used these quotes. Back in the day, I used to be a maniacal scrapbooker and was always on the prowl for meaningful and purposeful quotes to use on my pages. And these special ones have been sandwiched between layout ideas for about three years now- so I thought, Come on out, friends! I’ll share a fun quote from my keep-it-for-later binder…

“The family. We were a strange little band of characters trudging through life sharing diseases and toothpaste, coveting one another’s desserts, hiding shampoo, borrowing money, locking each other out of our rooms, inflicting pain and ksissing to heal it in the same instant, loving, laughing, defending, and trying to figure out the common thread that bound us all together.”

-Erma Bombeck

That reminds me of my family’s common thread- this lovely lady that’s so madly in love with her furry friends. Crazy. I club you, Mom :)

It’s like a Sports Car

Andy has been complaining about the ginormous size of our Canon 30D for awhile. After the flash bracket arrived last week, I totally get what he is saying:

See, who wants to ask anyone to take a picture of your family with this thing? It’s a little bit intimidating. Also, it’s like the size of a dinosaur. Or a manatee. Or a suburban. So, his birthday present was a cute little Canon G9- the size of a normal point and shoot (well, it still has bells and whistles, so it’s a little bigger than your average pocket sized camera). Meet our new sports car:

Ec_can_powershotg9_cn

We took it for a little test run this weekend. To the Spanish Village (this place is so cool- if you ever get a chance to visit San Diego, make sure you go to Balboa Park where the SV is located)…

Look, I can do arms length photos again:

It fits in my purse so I can pull it out at church while Ashleigh is devouring some sugar after service:

We can whip out the camera  for photos of the kids feeding duck types at the Wild Animal Park:

Or capture a family of giraffes eating their lunch:

Or capture the reason you got a sports car camera in the first place- so you wouldn’t be the one lugging around a telephoto lens that is the size of the state of Maine:

Actually, I had a little lens envy at this point and put the sports car camera away. It’s Andy’s anyway :)
