Hey friends
I am so touched by your concern and sweet words and comments
It was definitely a day brightener when I sat down at the computer just briefly yesterday. Our day began at 5:30 when Cory called me and I ignored the phone (that’s what happens when you stay up until midnight and need to squeeze more minutes into your sleep) and twenty minutes later the phone rang again, so I thought, well, it must be important). It was my friend Becky and in my sleepy and dazed state, I managed to hear something like, "You are being evacuated and you can come over here if you need to." And I did. I checked what the neighbors were doing and just minutes later as I was fumbling around to find the bare essentials, a neighbor knocked on the door and when I opened, she said, "Susie, it’s time to go- the smoke is on the other side of our hill." If you do not know, we live on the end of the cul-de-sac and are in close proximity to dry brush.
We headed south to my friend Becky’s- I’ve never packed for four people faster!-and stayed there for what turned out to be the earliest play date in the Sincock’s history book We were there until the afternoon when a precautionary evacuation was ordered for her neighborhood. The girls and I went a little further south to my friend Sarah’s where we spent the latter half of the day and night. I mention some of my friends that helped us immediately but there were countless friends and loved ones that called and sent e-mails and poured out general concerns to which I have not had time to respond. I want to say that not only am I grateful, but incredibly blessed. Thank you is not enough, I think more that I am humbled that you would think of us down in the San Diego area.
We were given the go ahead to go
back home today- my neighborhood has not been touched at all, but it
was desolate and quiet and when I saw a helicopter fly over with more
water drops, I decided to head up here to my folks’ house. The freeway that connects us was off and on closed yesterday and this afternoon, it was reported open. There was a scary part of the drive when the winds shifted an
eastern moving fire back toward the freeway (the Palomar Mt. fire one) and we were only five minutes from it.
Actually, I was kind of shaking. Scary stuff. Since we arrived here
they closed the 15 FWY again due to that fire.
Our pastor sent out an e-mail today that helped direct our prayers-
please consider praying for this when you are in quiet time today:
Together we can pray for the Lord to change the winds, for His divine
protection, that there will be no more loss of life, and that the fires
will be put out soon. Please pray for the firefighters and all the
brave men and women working hard to protect and take care of people’s
needs.
We have many friends in neighboring communities (Rancho Bernardo is just a couple of miles north and they were hit badly) that indeed have been severely hit by these wildfires- I hope you will join me in keeping them in prayers, too.
