Look *Doc, She Finally Took Me in to Get My Bangs Trimmed!

303_copy

I have thought this before, but I think today I might have captured Ashleigh looking like the Michelle of Full House back when TGIFriday was the coolest thing on ABC- eighth grade, maybe?

We go to the coolest little hair salon that I know of near our house- Chloe’s Carousel. It totally caters to children, but adults are welcome, too. My favorite part (and my children’s, too) is that a third of the salon is dedicated to being a children’s play area, complete with Little Tikes Castle, train table and dress up clothes. Ordinarily, I don’t make a big deal about haircuts, but since participating in Project 365, I find myself debating to bring the camera everytime I leave the house. Today I said, what the heck, it’s been at least four months since Ash had her bangs cut. And my readers would totally benefit from knowing that cool haircuts stores exist like this for kids. It was always Supercuts or Fantastic Sams when I was growing up…

Even Lolo benefited from the salon’s play area:

This is so silly, but I have to add this in. I used to have a Fozzie Bear stuffed animal (do you remember Fozzie Bear from the Muppets- I know I’m totally dating myself!). One summer after high school, I went on a cleaning rampage and threw him out. I sometimes am reminded of him and long to have him back, so when I saw this little plastic table, I had to get a shot of him:

Wacka! Wacka! Wacka!

*Doc is how Ashleigh says Dad.

Vodka Should Come with a Warning- flammable.

No one warned me that burning off half the vodka was literal:

It burned so long, I was able to walk across the room and get the camera and walk back to take this. OOps. Hey- isn’t cooking adventurous??

On How Random Searches Land Visitors Here

Sitemeter does a pretty good job of tracking google searches and how people from all over the world will land over here at {decorate your soul}. I’m totally stealing this idea for a post from Nely’s  blog, but what the heck, it’s a slow news day. Here we go, some of the most silly searches found on my sitemeter stats the last few days:

1. From Texas: Qualcomm Age Discrimination

2. From the Netherlands: Evil Polly Pockets  (see, it’s not just me)

3. From the UK: My five inch heels (it linked to this post)

4. Another one from the UK: decorate google with your very own skins (I am a little concerned about this one)

5. Recurring Search: Nose Warmer

Hello Strangers, you crack me up :)

Our Saturday Afternoon

Just getting some use out of our Wild Animal Park passes this weekend… a good purchase if you ever find yourself living in the San Diego area because the kids never tire going to see the larger animals.

Andy doing the brunt of the work- that is, pushing the stroller, carrying the diaper bag and keeping track of the Ash Monster:

Before long, she couldn’t do the walking tour on her own:

Look at that stinker face!

The older girls have some free reign when we go here, so they wanted to climb some of the silly statues that tourists take pictures of- I guess we’re tourists, too:

273

We took the tram and journeyed into Africa, and when the driver was making announcements over the speaker, Lolo was looking to see where her voice was coming from:

Bonus shot because it makes me smile:

Proof that we did in fact see animals- this is a giraffe snacking on what looks to be a stick:

Finally, my favorite capture of the day- Sarah was playing in a kids area and she was just having a good old time running around:

Hope you’re having a great weekend!

Flashback Friday: Greek Week

Over dinner last night, Andy and I were discussing the idea of having themed dinner weeks throughout the year. If you remember, we did a "Soup Week" a couple of months ago and so he started suggesting things like, Poultry Week (all meals would include something that had been unfeathered), Asian Week (all meals had some fish sauce or stir fry in its title), and Greek Week!

Which reminded me that back in the days of Sorority Susie, there was a week in the springtime that we celebrated Greek Week- and all the fraternities and sororities would come together and compete for some strange thing called a Greek Week Title. I think there was even a trophy. Gosh, it’s so silly as I reflect upon these activities today. My mind is kind of rusty since this was all about nine or ten years ago now, but what a fun trip down memory lane!

The entire Greek Community was nutso about this week- we dressed in "Togas" to kick off the week at the Greek Quarterly meeting, had a Quiz Bowl, competed in something called Greek Olympics and rounded out the week with the infamous "Lip Sync." During my senior year, the creative gals of Kappa Delta went with a racing theme and during the lunch hour on campus, we hosted a booth that sold hot dogs and suchlike, had a "Tic-Tac-Tire" game that cost a dollar and collected the money to donate to one philanthropic project. I grabbed a few photos from my senior year from my stash- one is with my "Lil Sis" Becky and the other is of the tire game:

Luckily, I can eat Gyros and Souvlaki as we enjoy current Greek Week Days. Ha.

POM POMS!

The Princess Pat turned her tiara in for some pom poms today- I wonder if these photos are telling of what is to come??

As Sarah would chant: Cheer-Lead-Er! Cheer-LEAD-ER!

(I think this is the only one I caught of her in the air- sorry it’s little blurry)

I love her little Flintsone feet with the two big cheer skirt draping over her knees:

I don’t want to share the pom poms! says Ash. She’s a stinker, let me tell you.

Little Miss Attitude, sheesh.

Project #3

According to my little 52 projects book, I was supposed to get on a train, take a ride to the end, take a picture and come back. Alas, this task with three kids in tow, paying for suggested ride and keeping the troops happy just wasn’t gonna happen. It didn’t happen. Some of the projects are outside of being doable for me, so I am not going to be constrained by the numbers and assignments, I have decided.

Having now explained myself, this is the project I wanted to tackle last week and with Andy’s helping hands, we did both hall closets (there is one that faces this one on the left). All the linen got it’s own spot ont he shelf rather than being shoved in a hole and we weeded out the stuff we hadn’t used since we lived here. This is right up our alley since we have declared we won’t be hoarders.

Project_3

Ah, a nice clean closet makes me fired up about the bedroom I need to tackle!

Happy Tuesday!

Is it Valentine’s Day yet?

Andy and I were busy cleaning out the two hall closets this morning when we overheard a report on FOX News (I am, if you did not know, glued to Channel 37 when Oprah is not on) that today is the most depressing day of the year. The reporter explained that we are well past the joyful rush of holiday celebrations, three weeks into the New Year and most people that have made resolutions have already dumped them and finally, most of the nation is in the middle of Winter and the weather is carrying on all cold and fierce-like.

And let me tell you, it had nothing to do with the our Christmas Tree being gone, or letting my goals for 2008 go, or even that I was stuck inside at 11AM in my pajamas cleaning out two messy closets (because honestly, isn’t reorganizing things you don’t NEED so freeing?- Yes, I think so). So, after the report, both of us agreed that indeed I was in a funk and kind of grumpy and the most depressed I had been all year long, so we just chalked it up to the January 21st-most-depressing-day-of-the-year-so far-funk.

Furthermore, as the day wore on, I am happy to report that I found my joy- we got those closets cleaned out, got the run in, had some Bingo time with the Bean and Andy made a pot of Swiss Fondue with Butternut Squash Ravioli with Sage Brown Butter Sauce. This of course only further proves that the way to fill my heart with happiness is through my thighs stomach.

Did I mention that I’m really looking forward to all the chocolate goodies that arrive with the onset of Valentine’s Day… ahhh.

Silly Hat Night

I love my girlfriends- they are so willing to be goofy with me.

157

(if I would just STOP talking, I wouldn’t have looked so goofy!)

What other themes could we do for Bunco nights, hmm…

What Lolo Has Been Up To:

Climbing the Plastic Picnic Table (by the way, the best ten dollars I ever spent off craigslist- which in fact wound up being sold by a nice lady from our church (hi Dana!):

156

She’s been on her feet more these days, too- her little legs are taking over and her knees are getting dusty. Can you say "Look Who’s Walking?"

164

(seen with a nightgown that she wants to put on her head- she’s so silly!).

Okay, last thing that I won’t be able to get a picture of… she gives kisses. I say "Kisses, Lolo" and proceed to smack her with my lips a few times and she {sometimes} responds with a  clicking noise with her tongue and lips into my face. I love it!

And I love her.
