Friday Five

5. Andy whispered sweet nothings into my ear the other night after I showered. He said, "Honey, you smell manly." Not even lying.

4. Lauren is not learning baby signs as fast as I want her to. I keep showing her "more" and she keeps crying and walking to the area of snacks and crying and pointing. In the end, she still makes out, right?

3. Ashleigh began her speech therapy yesterday. I do not want to limit this topic to #3 in this post, but we’ll just say the way we got her there was nothing but Divine intervention. I am blown away by how God makes things happen when one can feel defeated by "the system."

2. We are out of coffee. This is not so good for a coffee addict like myself. No lie, I had a headache at 7:15 this morning. Must. Get. More. Coffee. Beans.

1. I am excited to share that I have not forgotten how to scrapbook. Minus one layout to do on Lauren’s babyshower, her first year book is officially done. Keep it simple, Ladies. It’s doable with more than one kid.

Have a blessed weekend- and Happy Leap Day!

Whose idea was this anyways?

When do you get your run on? After a recent conversation regarding this very thing, my girlfriend Michelle and I thought up a great idea it might be to swap some running time while one of us moms hangs back with our kids at a park. Then, we could get the time without children to get our run on. It’s such a fabulous idea that I had to jump on it! One day a week, for thirty minutes, I’ll get time to run outside- and of course, so will my interested friends!

The trail we decided to do this run-swap on is right next to a local park we frequent which makes this plan doable. The only catch was that I had never actually gone on the trail and didn’t want to be left in the middle of the wilderness without knowing how to get out. Remember, I’m the paranoid lady? So, Michelle and I decide that today we would walk the trail with all of our kids- that way we can get a feel for it together and then have some park play time.

Oh dear. Whose idea was it to include seven children (her four and my three) on a 2 1/2 mile walk… On a dirt trail… That was sometimes slushy muddy because, duh, it rained last week? Um, yeah, that would be me.

I can’t stop laughing. It was such a bad idea. Kids are, to put it mildly, not long distance walkers. Unless you don’t mind some whining occasionally, and the very frequent pit stop stops, I guess they can be made into 2 1/2 miles walkers…

Luckily Michelle said she would still be my friend when we finally reached the park.

Thank you camera phone for letting me capture our adventure:

Trailblazer

I know you’re wondering where all the kids are- well two are in my stroller (which is behind me), two are in her stroller and three more are right behind that double stroller climbing the trail trying to catch up with us. If there wasn’t so much fatigue, mud, and tears, I might have tried to include everyone. I’d like to say I’ll have another opportunity to get that picture, but as of right now- it’s not likely.

Fruity v.s. Manly

In my former life, I was a Herbal Essences kind of gal. Before Andy, I exclusively bought this fruit and flower smelling shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.  As far as I was concerned, nothing else existed. Even the Suave that smelled the same (and probably did the very same thing) could not lure me with it’s attractive dollar a bottle price.

Enter a husband. Andy was a Neutrogena, snub-up-your-nose at anything flowery and fruity type of guy. In fact, his bottles of hair cleaner even had a masculine outer shell to them (of course, they are being marketed to MEN, duh). Once we shared the shower shelf with our own preferences, it was of course, ridiculous to have five different bottles of items one needs to wash your hair/body with.

So, we compromised and went with whatever Costco has in large bottles. This means that the majority of what we use comes in oversized, boring, white bottles bearing the title of Dove! Pantene! Pert! So… yesterday we went to Costco, armed with a Neutrogena coupon for a new body wash. I tried to convince Andy to tear out the pink and purple bottled coupon for Olay, but I am not a fighter and I succumbed to his request. Despite my feeble attempt to convince him that the body wash in the masculine bottle would surely make me smell like a man, wouldn’t you know that this very morning I left the shower with a brusque smell attached to my body.

I have decided that I will be bringing fruity and flowery back into the shower, friends. Game on.

Totally unrelated, but here’s my 2 1/2 year old that lives to wear a fancy dresses on any given day:

Like, why not today? and tomorrow. And the next day, too.

Oscar Night at Bunco

Wouldn’t you know that the "themes" are catching on for our little Bunco group. I know I totally fit the suburban housewife stereotype by being apart of a Bunco Group- but really, don’t we all want to promenade down the red carpet before the big night, too?

(this is Andy and my first attempt at layer masks in CS3- it’s not so finished looking, but we had to play a bit, stay with me here)

Aren’t my girlfriends just beautiful?  Hmm- I just noticed that I put all the ladies dressed in black in the back. What a fun night- thanks, Whit!

Sorry Ladies, He’s Taken

Andy’s been off five of the last six days. I caught him taking a break from the sofa to play some chords on Guitar Hero- you gotta love this look: tie-dye Jesus freak tee sans 1997, comfy running pants, and scruffies.

Like I said, sorry gals, this sexy guitar jammin’ man is mine.

hee-hee.

Ten on Tuesday.

1. Today, I feel ambitious.

2. Maybe because there will be a painter here in my bathroom in three hours.

3. Which means my room will be clean today.

4. We have these fruits in the house: bananas, apples, oranges, grapes and a cantaloupe.

5. Oh, how I do love cantaloupe.

6. You would not believe how ridiculously dirty the lenses of my glasses are.

7. If you interested in a weekend recap, we went to a fancy dinner on Friday night, I had two shoots on Saturday, went to a photography seminar thing on Sunday and had a family day yesterday. I mean, in case you are interested. I also had time to order a new lens, too. If only you knew how much sleep I lost over that decision.

8. Did I mention I need to clean my room this morning? I’m stalling.

9. Only two weeks until Canadian Cousin Katie comes to visit and we have some fun things in store- woo-hoo :)

10. A happy moment from the park yesterday:

Have a great Tuesday :)

Paranoia, Paranoia, Somebody’s Coming to Get Me

Did you know I live in a state of paranoia? I am learnig this about myself.

Before I get into a car, I do a quick check into the backseat to make sure someone’s not hiding out ready to pounce me while driving.

I do not open the door to strangers, even during broad daylight. I will talk to the solicitor through the door.

I check and recheck all doors are locked at night.

I keep a Mag-lite next to my bed at night and sometimes under my pillow on nights Andy is away.

I sleep with a night light in the bathroom.

I speedwalk from stores to the parking lot with keys in hand.

Sometimes I think I’m just being safe, but other times when I begin to list these things out, I realize I’m flat our paranoid of the universe.

I wish I could rest easier.

"When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You."

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Our cupcakes may  not have been worthy of competing in any local baking contest, but the girls and I played with sprinkles and icing before our little Valentine’s celebration for fun and I had to try a few fancy shots before we dug in…

And then, one of the party-goers could no longer wait for mom to get "the one" shot…

I guess I can’t blame her- Happy Valentine’s Day! Hope you are blessed and feel loved this day :)

1-2-3-4

  • There is a dog outside barking its head off. Seriously, when did a dog move next door?
  • Sarah’s class is having their Valentine’s Party today and before we left with cards and teacher gift in tow, I looked at the calendar to make sure I got everything. An hour later, I remembered we were supposed to bring the frosting that’s been sitting in the pantry for a week. ugh.
  • Lauren is still under the weather and Ashleigh has joined in on the fun. Woo-hoo, it’s a big old sick girl party over at the Sincocks. The cold an flu season can otherwise be known from here on out as the party that lasts keeps you in your home for two (and usually more) weeks.
  • I’m so excited to finally update my card collection on the sidebar- I’m no longer doing stamp challenges, so I’ll be updating my collection from the recent card workshop there (and changing the album name) that was last weekend- here’s one that I loved:

That’s actually not the original, it’s slightly different right here. Okay, back to work.

Happy Wednesday!

About 5 minutes after this was taken, she puked everywhere.

And that’s what kind of weekend we’re having.

But isn’t she cute??
