Good to Me

This song has been running through my head today. I am not the one hurting, yet, I am.

Good to Me

I cry out,
For your hand of mercy to heal me,
I am weak,
I need your love to free me,
Oh Lord,
My rock,
My strength in weakness,
Come rescue me,
Oh Lord,
I cry out,
For your hand of mercy to heal me,
I am weak,
I need your love to free me,
Oh Lord my rock,
My strength in weakness,
Come rescue me,
Oh Lord,

You are my hope,
Your promise never fails me,
And my desire,
Is to follow you forever,

Lord you are good Lord you are good Lord you are good to me,
Lord you are good Lord you are good Lord you are good to me,

I cry out,
For your hand of mercy to heal me,
I am weak,
I need your love to free me,
Oh Lord,
My rock,
My strength in weakness,
Come rescue me oh Lord,

You are my hope,
Your promise never fails me,
And my desire,
Is to follow you forever,

Lord you are good Lord you are good Lord you are good to me,
Lord you are good Lord you are good Lord you are good to me,
Lord you are good Lord you are good Lord you are good to me,
Lord you are good Lord you are good Lord you are good to me,
Lord you are good Lord you are good Lord you are good to me,
Lord you are good Lord you are good Lord you are good to me,

Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe. I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.

(Psalm 61:1-4)

My account goes like this:

Picture me at a weedy field at sunset trying to take some pictures, explaining to my subjects how I think they might like to get together to pose.

Did I mention we were amid fields of bugs and bees? Wouldn’t you know that one wingy creature flew right in to the end of my mouth while I was conversing and- straight to my throat!

What ensued was a terrifying, hacking experience as I tried to expell said bug out of my mouth. It was too late. Down it had gone.

This one should be titled: "There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly"  because on Tuesday, Tyler (my little brother) asked me, "Susie, Were you alive when Woodstock happened?"

Seriously?

In Bloom

We were intending to go pick some strawberries near the coast on Tuesday- but apparently (although I did not know since I didn’t check any information prior to going- so much for fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants planning), the strawberry fields are not open for picking to the public until the beginning of April. So… we visited these beauties nearby instead.

All sorts of wonderful COLOR sprayed across the landscape in front of us.

The girls each got a booklet to search for themed stamps at certain flagposts which made the adventure even more fun for them…

Since my files are taking a day and a half to load, I’m skipping the individual images and going straight to the one that makes me smile- my little brother (who isn’t so little anymore!) was wonderful and patient as ever as he spent part of  his Spring Break down here visiting. He’s such a trooper and so willing to help out- I hope we didn’t do him in for future kids of his own- our kids still need cousins!!

if only the guy (or, the ONLY guy) would have been smiling, it would have made a nice family photo

Hope you had a wonderful Easter everyone! We had a wonderful and blessed weekend visiting with our families.

The most insteresting details will have to wait. I am apparently pushing my night owl limitations by staying up past midnight. It must have been the Lipton Tea. I’m cutting myself off.

Chasing the Light

I was on the phone with a girlfriend the other day when I told her I was chasing the light. I kind of giggled and knew what a nerd I was (no big surprise for the majority of my readers here that know me), but the fact is, right before sunset every night, I can often be found looking outside wishing I was taking pictures.

So. On Thursday, I dragged the girls out to a fieldy type location at sunset that I had spied by a nearby freeway. I had even convinved my good friend Sarah to bring her camera & kiddos with us…By the way, this also goes down as another one of my "great ideas"- let’s drag five kids out to the middle of a dirty, dusty,  weedy field and go for a hike to take pictures in weeds. I’m not exaggerating on the description of where we went- but it all worked out fine (minus the hill, I kind of didn’t think that one out with my baby strapped to my back and my camera strapped to my front) because the field we happened upon was heavily laden with a very friendly bug: Ladybugs! They kind of saved the day, actually.

Okay one more of my Ashleigh with her buddy Lilly.

I’ll leave you one from Sarah’s camera:

Good times, good times.

Welcome Spring!

Just been busying ourselves outdoors. Hope to be back posting soon :)

Making the Best Out of the Rock Garden

You may not know, but we have a rock garden that makes up our front yard. They are fairly common in the region we live- it was not our first choice for a yard when moving down here to San Diego, but it beats having ten feet of space to call a yard, so we compromised.

The girls manage pretty well to play around the rocks, sometimes they become part of the fun- they use them as play money to buy pretend mochas (guess where we visit too often?), or pretend they are filling up their buckets with ice cream, or just today, line them up and count.

Actually, Ashleigh is our liner-upper. I am loving her as an almost three-year-old. She is becoming more and more independent, but still maintains her need for mommy and daddy assistance. In the past three months, we have noticed her speaking more clearly and simply makes my heart swoon everytime she says "Okay, Mammy" in her sweet, very soft voice (yes, Mammy).

Clearly, Ash becomes very focused on tasks – my most independent child yet (Lolo might be too young to debate this, though). And my goodness, isn’t she just beautiful.

But once again, I might be a little biased here.

Happy St. Patty’s Day to ya!

It’s Beginning to Look Like Strawberry Season Recipe!

If you’re in these parts, your grocery store is beginning to spill over with familiar red, delicious, fruity, green baskets of strawberries. Oh- do I have the perfect salad for you strawberry lovers. This recipe was generously shared by my girlfriend, Brittany- oh thank you, friend. All of our friends pallettes are better for you having brought this into our lives:

Strawberry, Cranberry, Almond Salad

Ingredients:

Mixed Greens

Strawberries

Dried Cranberries

1 1/2 c. Slivered Almonds

1/2 c. Sugar

1/4 c.  Red Wine Vinegar

1/2 c. Olive Oil

3/4 tsp. Salt

For the Salad:

Mix greens, strawberries, dried cranberries together. In a skillet, combine almonds with 1/2 cup sugar and heat stir until sugar carmelizes onto the almonds. When they cool, toss them into the salad mix.

For the Dressing:

Mix the red wine vinegar, olive oil, sugar and salt. Serve over the salad for a wonderfully sweet and unique salad!

Serves at least eight.

She Still Likes Her Swing

Even though she’s barely fitting…

Ten on Tuesday

1. I’m slacking on the Project 365, for many reasons actually. The first one being, I am so bored of taking pictures of my kids playing outside.

2. The second reason is that our new card reader is attached to the new printer and it’s slow as mollases.

3. Sarah has a book called True Blue that uses that phrase "slow as mollases." The book is truly sad, I am not sure why we have kept it in our collection. I know, we keep our books like they are trophies on our bookshelves.

4. Two points for knowing who said that last line on the tube some years ago.

5. Today, our very special Aunt Nana is celebrating a very special day. I hope you know we love you very much, Fancy.

6. I am struggling a lot with the two-month-old not-going-to-Target-and-spending-frivolously budget. It stinks to be honest with you. I can’t even go roam around because I know you k now how items can just JUMP into the basket. I am just avoiding going there.

7. I bought my first new pair of shoes since Christmas to go with my new polka dotted dress for Spring (I can’t link, it was at the outlets). I seem to splurge every spring on one flirty dress that makes me feel pretty. And cute shoes, too, apparently.

8. Hoping today is the day for my very pregnant friend J.J. to deliver her baby – fingers crossed anyway!!

9. Andy and I will be spending the weekend weeding that backyard. I told him I need a new set of gardening gloves, though. And maybe a gardener’s hat. Hey, why not dress the part if I have to play it, I say?

10. Here’s some of the overgrown weeks that have sprouted up when we weren’t looking:

Hoping today is lending some warmth and sunshine to your neighborhood!
