May 31st: Signs of Summer

_MG_4835-Edit

The sun isn't going down until 9:30 at night.

The warmer days are making way for playing outside all. day. long.

The temperatures are rising along with the humidity.

The school year is winding down.

And, perhaps the biggest sign yet:

Boxes of popsicles are calling from the freezer.

We're excited for summer adventures!

May 30th: Roller Derby Birthday

Sarah celebrated her sixth birthday today with her besties at Skate World. Here she is when the DJ had everyone sing Happy Birthday to her. She has shed the little from her title so gracefully this past year, and is quickly blooming into a full on school aged kid these days…

On occasion, she will sit on my lap and snuggle bug, so there must be some little still left in her.
I'll take what I can get!

Isn't she a cutie roller derby girl?

May 28th: Her First Recital

_MG_4714-Edit

After the recital, I asked Ashleigh if she had fun and she got that silly this-is-a-no-brainer-mom look on her face that pretty much said, Of course!

So I said, "What was your favorite part?"

And she promptly replied, "DANCING! On the big stage!"

And that made my heart so ridiculously happy.

May 28th: The Day Both Next Door Neighbors Moved Out.

From our corner lot home, if you stood just right, you could look left and see a moving van and look to the right and see a moving van today.

That's right, both of our next door neighbors are moving.

<insert long deep breath and a sigh.>

Did I mention how awesome our neighbors are? I don't want to think about next week without them…

It's been an emotional day for sure.

May 27th: Well, 3 Things.

I took this shot as Ashleigh was about to go into the building for her speech appointment. She stopped and paused, so I snapped– but the thing I need to point out in this shot is really her obnoxious POP TART tattoo courtesy a 6-year-old (hello, it's HUGE) (and why isn't she getting reimbursement for her free advertising for them yet??) and secondly, how cute is Lolo in the background with her purse in one hand,  baby tucked under the arm, small ponytail already falling out & walking all sassy pants-like!

Gosh I love them!

May 26th: Unwinding

Today:
commissary trip
gymnastics for Sarah
cleaned up nail polish exploration (courtesy Lolo)
dragged the kids out for a work out
errand to Target
ballet for Ashleigh
home for dinner (meatball sandwiches, if you were curious)

Tonight:
evening bubble bath with one really good book!

A favorite place to unwind.

May 25th: Memorial Day Food Rocks.

MemorialDayFood

So does our neighborhood. We're so so very lucky to have the amazing neighbors that we do and celebrate long weekends with such good people. Thank you, Amy, for the yummy and good looking cupcakes up there. Thanks to Family Fun for a twist on fruity treats.

May 24th: Standard Family Vacation Picture

Before we entered the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, we swapped family snapshots with another visiting family. I didn't think we needed anymore shots of zebras or tigers so I had left my camera in the truck, but Andy quite enjoys shots of sleeping tigers from zoo to zoo, so here's his sportscar cam version of our family:

Can you tell it was kind of chilly there?

I have to admit it, at the end of the day, I'm glad he brought his camera to document our visit, too.

May 23rd: Reflections from Cloud Gate

Another top priority place to visit (for me) (everyone else in my party could care less) was the cool mirrored bean-shape sculpture in Millennium Park known as Cloud Gate. It was teeming with tourists and other varieties when we arrived, which totally disappointed me. But really, what could I expect? It was a long holiday weekend in the middle of a beautiful spring day.

Here's Lolo investigating the strangely shaped thing:

More Chicago pictures to come soon!

May 22nd: Waiting for Gino’s East

One of our priority places to visit in Chicago was Gino's East- apparently the best pizza on earth (or in Chicago, at least). We waited in line about 40 minutes, ordered and waited another 45 minutes for the deep dish pie and really, the best pizza on earth. We were pleased. ANd bonus, Andy loves the Blue Moon beer.

Here's Lo and I waiting with the famous place only feet away.
