Rockin’ Out for Jesus

A couple of months ago, I became addicted to The David Crowder Band’s music. When I hear a good tune (or multiple ones), I tend to check repeat in my iTunes display and listen to an artist’s songs as long as everyone around me can take it. It was the same way back when Lenny Kravitz came out with a new CD 2000 (Greatest Hits), you could easily hear “Stand By My Woman” on replay from my tiny little apartment, my poor neighbors must have thought I was a groupie (not a groupie, I’ve never even been to a concert by Lenny, but I did know he was dating Nicole Kidman, so, sort of).

Anyway, Lenny and Dave certainly don’t have music lyrics in common, but they have the fun, froofy fro going for them. I had been watching tickets to a live performance for a few weeks, the closest they were coming to Dayton was South Bend, IN, which is still a five hour drive- and then there’s the whole, “What am I going to do with my kids?” part. I just kept checking back every few days, and imagine my surprise when a stop to Cincinnatti got placed on their tour date? Woot! Woot! I jumped on the tickets and bartered with my friend Suzi to take the girls for half the day! The girls had a blast while Andy and I had a date night. As proof, I requested a picture of the two of us. I placed the cmaera on top of his car, but forgot to account for his, ahem, height. Oops.

_MG_0461-EditAnyway, this picture doesn’t show the best part- my new Carrie’s:

_MG_0460I made it all the way to song three in them and then my feet were dying of pain. But aren’t they cute? Can you see the toe cleavage?  Nice. (nevermind the veiny feet, okay?)

Okay, back to the concert… we totally lucked out and scored seats just five rows back in the center. But that didn’t really take into account the five rows of pit that were in front of the seats. I was so super excited when they finally came out after the opening bands (noteworthy was *danyew from San Diego!), and there was this surprise- an incredible light show (now remember, I’ve only been ot one other real concert, circa 1999) that opened with the bandsinging. I brought he minimal camera and lens, so I got some cruddy shots, but whatever.

Untitled-2I loved how the lights changed to spotlights. David Crowder has a great rapport on stage,  and the entire band is witty with dry and funny humor. They were picking on some lady from Kentucky in the front row holding a sign that said something like, “You promised to join our band,” and he pointed out this gig was kind of working out for him. But if he needed help with some band naming, he could come up with something extraordinarily unique- ha.

This is how close we were in the packed church, look at this silly guy getting into my picture. Hello, fellow DCB fan :)
_MG_0480It was extremely warm in there. Like uncomfortable-sweaty-might-as-well-as-be-in-a-sauna warm. But, the music was pretty stinkin’ awesome. And it was live. And not on replay on my little Klipsch speakers. It was glorious (pun intended).

_MG_0504-EditI love that they are singing words that are glorifying to the Lord and that their unique style is refreshing, drawing more people to Jesus. I love ministries that can move people to share their gifts. Thank you David Crowder Band for making a stop in Ohio. I’m so thankful for the evening out and the experience.

This is the shot where I made my way through the aisle (w/ two songs to go!) and cut myself in front of nice folks worshipping. I wish I had brought a wide angle to get all the band members in, but just know, collectively, they knocked my socks off (or my heels!).
